WATER RESCUE
As a Search and Rescue Team in BC, we cover inland water… lakes, creeks and rivers
Powell River Search and Rescue is prepared for any situation
We are lucky to live in an area with so many ways to enjoy the outdoors. With many lakes, good fishing and off grid cabins Powell River SAR has built up its Water Rescue capabilities to be able to help those in need, on the water. In our area we have many islands that we may need to access as well. With the addition of new watercraft, whether it is searching along the shoreline, rescuing stranded or injured people or transporting our crews, we have the tools to get the job done.
Our members practice Water Rescue techniques
We train in boat operations, throwbagging and shoreline rescue and search tactics and are working towards adding Ice Rescue to our capabilities. Along with these skills, to be able to operate on and near the water requires a lot of extra equipment. With our larger boat we are able to access the islands off our coast, the bigger lakes and also shorelines across the inlets. Our smaller craft can access many of the smaller lakes and is able to be towed longer distances on the FSRs to reach the further out places we may be needed. Having this equipment not only benefits our community but can be called upon by other SAR groups or local agencies that may not have the same training or equipment.
