ROPE RESCUE
Powell River Search and Rescue specializes in high angle and slope rope rescue techniques to access hard to reach places.
Our team is practised in using ropes in vertical terrain or on slippery, steep slopes that need ropes to assist a rescue
Our backyard is full of big cliffs, bluffs, gullies and steep hill sides. If someone gets stuck or injured in these types of terrain we have the tools and know how to get them out. We use specialized techniques and equipment to make sure that we can get there and get people out, safely and promptly.
We utilize the Dual Capability Two Tensioned Rope System
This is the new standard of rope rescue in BC, and ensures full redundancy, strength and safety while working in vertical terrain or on slopes that need ropes to assist personnel. As all Search and Rescue teams in BC are now using this standard it means that wherever we go and whoever we work with, the systems stay the same, creating effective team work with other teams and other communities.
Training hard to keep our skills and our equipment ready to go is essential
Being proficient at using these rope systems requires constant practice. Our Rope Team members train hard. We have regularly scheduled training twice a month where we practice our rope rescue techniques and practice with our equipment. Outside of team training members spend much more time climbing, practicing and taking courses to advance their skills.
