Powell River Search and Rescue is dedicated to helping those that are lost or injured.
Since 1991 Powell River SAR has been there to help whenever someone is lost, missing, injured or stranded. Spanning from Jervis Inlet north to Knight Inlet, from the islands off our shores east to the mountains of the Pemberton Forest District, our response area covers a vast amount of diverse terrain. From the waters of Powell Lake to the cliffs of the Daniels Valley with snow-capped mountains beyond, it is beautiful but can also be treacherous. Whether its a missing person in our community, someone who has lost their way in the backcountry or someone who needs medical attention, we are there to help. Rain or snow, day or night, we can go.
Our Organization
We are a registered Non-profit Society of British Columbia that is recognized by Emergency Management and Climate Readiness BC (EMCR) and the RCMP to carry out Search and Rescue Operations in the Province of British Columbia. We are members of the British Columbia Search and Rescue Association (BCSARA) and Public Safety Lifeline Volunteers.
Who We Are
We are unpaid professionals on call 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. With around 30 members, we come from various walks of life. Some of us have regular full-time jobs and some are enjoying the retired life, but we all share the commitment needed to train hard, grow our organization and our own skill sets, so that we can go out and provide our services, safely, effectively and professionally. On an average, members put in 80 hrs of service a year. With many doing much more behind the scenes.
